Engineered Wood
One of FCA’s largest raw material components is engineered wood, which provides customers with a more cost effective, durable and flexible packaging solution relative to traditional lumber, and is also compliant with the ISPM-15 standard. Products designed and manufactured with engineered wood are price-comparable to traditional lumber products while providing superior strength and shipping benefits.
Hybrid SolutionFCA recently introduced an innovative, patent pending hybrid packaging product constructed from engineered wood and specialized steel components. This hybrid package can be recycled and reused as many as 30 to 50 times. Generally, this hybrid packaging offers a 50% or more cost reduction versus steel racks, but can be used and recycled more than the traditional expendable option. The hybrid solution is built with patent-pending steel bracketry that allows FCA to customize packaging for products weighing as much as 15,000 pounds. It is a highly flexible and environmentally friendly product option that is relatively inexpensive to discard when product design changes necessitate new packaging. Hybrid packaging proactively addresses customers’ on‐going efforts to drive costs out of the manufacturing process and minimize environmental impact.
